After a scoreless first quarter, Crespi, ranked No. 10 in the Southland by The Times, took control at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and leads the No. 7 Knights, 16-0, at the half.

The Celts opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown reception by senior receiver Joseph Fauria with 8:59 left in the second period. A Crespi fan yelled, repeatedly, but accurately, ‘Go to No. 85. They don’t have anybody who can cover him.’

The Celts stretched the 6-0 lead to 13-0 after junior linebacker Chris Carter returned a blocked Notre Dame field-goal attempt for a touchdown, and then Christian Nastos converted the extra point with 7:02 left in the half.

Driving again in the last two minutes before the break, Crespi settled for a 21-yard field goal by Nastos with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Right now, at least, Crespi looks well on its way to beating Notre Dame for the first time since 1993.
