The country music has kicked in here at Norco High, so we must be getting close to kickoff. The Cougars are playing Corona Centennial for the Mountain View League title, and the place was packed an hour beforehand. Good thing there’s plenty of free spots on the hillside beside the stadium, although they come with views obstructed by a few trees.

I checked with the offensive line coach for Norco, the guy who always carries around the two-gallon jug of water or soda or whatever’s in there, and he confirmed running back Josh Nakamoto would be playing tonight. Nakamoto hasn’t played since he dislocated his ankle on the second offensive play of the season. How much action he’ll see is still to be determined.

Centennial is also healthy, but word is one of the offensive linemen is not playing because of grades. The Huskies played musical chairs with their line earlier in the season, so there’s plenty of depth up front.

One of the Norco players is beginning to sound like Kellen Winslow, Jr. during his famous, ‘I am a soldier,’ tirade while at Miami. ‘You are all my brothers,’ the Norco player yelled. ‘It takes the will of God to play this game.’

I don’t know about that, but we might have the next Joel Osteen here.
