The second round of the Southern Section divisional playoffs wasn’t kind to Marmonte League volleyball teams on Thursday night.

Despite a hard-fought, five-game battle, league champion Thousand Oaks suffered only its third loss of the season against third-seeded Redondo in Division I-AA action. And league runner-up Westlake was swept by Mira Costa, the top-ranked team in the nation, according to prepvolleyball.com.

I know these two squads play in a highly competitive division and were relative longshots to take the title, but they got the bad end of the playoff-seeding stick. Maybe next year the Southern Section will show a little more mercy.
