I’m not going to lie, I get restless sitting in front of a computer all the time. That’s why it’s important for me to escape from my seat in front of the monitor once in a while and get out to a football practice, or two. Westlake was No. 1 on my list this week, so I visited the campus this afternoon and left impressed after watching Curtis Peterson catch seemingly everything thrown his way.

In traffic over the middle, on the sidelines with someone draped all over his back, deep downfield on post patterns, it didn’t matter. The ball still ended up in his grasp a majority of the time. It’s like the dude had glue on his hands or something. Now that I think about it, I should’ve checked to make sure he wasn’t using any sticky substances. Kind of like Fred Biletnikoff did back in the day.

All kidding aside, Peterson is talented. Guess I shouldn’t have been surprised to learn that the senior leads Ventura County wideouts in receiving. Take a look for yourself on Maxpreps.com. He’s been playing some of his best football over the past month, or so, guiding the Warriors to a share of the Marmonte League title and into Friday’s Northern Division playoff opener against Camarillo.

Peterson has gained 100 or more yards in four of the last five games, highlighted by a standout effort in a 31-14 victory over Simi Valley when he finished with 10 catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns. NCAA Division I recruiters have been keeping a watchful eye on him for a while now, similar to the way he keeps a watchful eye on the football. If it’s within reach, you better believe Peterson is going to come down with it in his possession more often than not.
