Mike Sands of Temescal Canyon has stepped down as head football coach after five seasons. The Titans finished fourth in the Southwestern League after losing their final two games, which cost them an automatic playoff spot for the first time under Sands.

Sands was still hoping for a wild-card berth into the Inland Division playoffs, but it went to Santiago, which won only one game in Mountain View League play, but won the one that counted in nonleague play, defeating Temescal Canyon, 14-7, in overtime on Sept. 21.

The Titans also finished with a 2-3 record in league play last season, but tied for third and got into the playoffs based on head-to-head results. They advanced to a semifinal before losing to league rival Chaparral, 24-19.

Last weekend must have been difficult for Sands, not knowing if he would be playing golf or preparing for a game this week.
