Penalties are taking their toll on Los Osos in its Inland Division first-round game against host Chaparral.

With the score tied, 7-7, the Grizzlies appeared to take their first lead of the game when running back Arby Fields picked up a botched handoff, reversed directions and scored on a 42-yard run. However, somewhere in the middle of that wild play, a Chaparral player was held, the play was called back and Los Osos eventually turned the ball over.

A holding penalty on the Grizzlies’ first offensive play of the game led to a third-and-long. Defensive lineman Mike Sikorski then intercepted the next pass and returned it to the Los Osos four-yard line, setting up Chaparrel’s only touchdown.

The Los Osos defenders blew a few tackles early in the game, but came up with a sack on fourth and six at its own 38. The Grizzlies followed with their only touchdown drive of the game, capped by Richard Brehaut’s 13-yard pass to Cody McLeod.

I get the feeling this game will come down to the last drive.
