Four boys’ basketball players who transferred from Sylmar to Van Nuys and were declared ineligible because of a new CIF state transfer rule have submitted paperwork to City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege seeking to regain their eligibility.

Under the CIF rule, they were declared ineligible because they followed former Sylmar assistant Charles White to Van Nuys. They must provide evidence that undue influence was not involved.

If Fiege rules in favor of the students, they can play immediately for Van Nuys. If she upholds her earlier ruling declaring them ineligible, they can appeal to the state CIF.
