Word of the Day: Lambaste

lam-baste: to assault violently; to whip or beat.

Yesterday, a reader (and part-time wordsmith, i guess) criticized me for my use of ‘lambaste.’ I previously had written that ‘Culver City lambasted Leuzinger, 35-28.’

Torching the scoreboard for 35, which the Centaurs did, that’s lambaste.

Throwing for 439 yards, which Darius Banks accomplished, that’s lambaste.

Catching passes for a school-record 230 yards, which Antwon Moutra pulled off, that’s lambaste.

And what Culver City should do to the rest of the Western Division: lambaste.

(But if I’m wrong, please don’t try to lambaste me. Hey, I’m a bleeder and bruise easily.)
