Kyle Shorten of Oak Park gets overlooked more often than not. Guess it has something to do with the fact he plays the same position, running back, as regional standouts Darrell Scott, Delano Howell and Chris Brown.

Believe me, there’s plenty of other featured backs I can name, Cierre Wood, Ryan Zirbel, Malcolm Jones, etc. But Shorten is just as valuable to the Eagles as any of those other guys are to their respective teams.

The senior has accounted for 1,052 yards of total offense, rushed for 10 touchdowns, caught three passes for scores and even thrown a TD pass heading into Friday’s Northwest Division quarterfinal playoff game against Harvard-Westlake. Yet, he still flies underneath the radar. He receives little, or no, recognition. No love.
