Without a doubt, the best game tonight in the Central Division is Rancho Verde at third-seeded Colton at 7:30 p.m.

In my opinion, these are the two best teams in the division and, for additional entertainment, there should be a nice little battle in the trenches between USC-bound offensive left tackle Tyron Smith of Rancho Verde and UCLA-bound defensive end Damien Holmes of Colton.

If I were Pete Carroll or Karl Dorrell, I’d want to see this game.

Rancho Verde’s spread offense was clicking last week in a 53-28 victory over Arcadia. Colton likes to grind it out with a completely different style of offense, the double wing, and did so in a 51-0 first-round victory over Chino Don Lugo.

The Mustangs were a little nicked up the last time I saw them, but still pushed Norco to its limit before losing, 27-24.

I think the difference-maker tonight might be sophomore linebacker Ronald Powell of Rancho Verde. Not much is known about this kid, but he’s quickly becoming a playmaker for the Mustangs and should wreak havoc tonight against a one-dimensional offense like Colton’s.
