Now that Jimmy Clausen is no longer playing football at Oaks Christian, it’s about time the school is known for producing something else.

On Saturday at the state cross-country championships, the Lions made a name for themselves in the Division IV girls’ race, winning the team title with 149 points at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Oaks Christian came into the meet ranked fourth in state in Division IV, but the Lions were sharp enough to edge top-ranked Berkeley St. Mary’s, which finished with 158 points, followed by La Reina with 167.

Cristina Garcia, a freshman, was the top finisher for Oaks Christian, placing 24th overall in 19:38.
Sarah Sumpter of Healdsburg won the individual title in 17:26, breaking a 16-year-old Division IV state record by 21 seconds.

That’s three division records in four girls’ races so far. I told you the course was fast.
