For me, Crespi has been the toughest team to figure out this season. The Celts’ inconsistent performances have had me constantly trying to figure out if this is the team that knocked down Birmingham and St. Bonaventure or the team that lost to Corona Centennial and Canyon and just eaked by Alemany and St. Paul.

On Friday night, I finally got my answer. With their dominating, 48-26 victory over Mater Dei in a Pac-5 Division quarterfinal, the Celts proved once and for all they’re capable of winning perhaps the most prestigious divisional title in the country.

Servite will be no walk in the park in the semifinals, and a potential meeting with Long Beach Poly or Orange Lutheran in the divisional final will be tough, but, for the first time, I think everybody is seriously starting to consider second-seeded Crespi as a legitimate title contender.

I’ve been hit head-on with a Celt conversion and because changing my mind is all part of that free-will thing, I’m picking Crespi to win what will be its third division title in four years.
