Serrano couldn’t deliver a repeat performance against visting Palm Desert in an Eastern Division quarterfinal Friday night and lost, 47-21.

Didn’t somebody write that it’s not so easy to beat a team twice in one season? That’s why some coaches refuse to schedule nonleague games against possible playoff opponents. That’s why Mater Dei and Mission Viejo no longer clash during the regular season.

Palm Desert’s upset of the top-seeded Diamondbacks sets up an all-Desert Valley League semifinal Saturday night, when the Aztecs host Palm Springs at 7 p.m.

In the other semifinal, scheduled for Friday night, second-seeded Riverside North will play at Riverside King in a rematch of Ivy League teams.

What’s with all the rematches in the Eastern Division? How boring. I’d rather see Redlands East Valley and Corona Centennial lay a whoopin’ on their opponents in the Inland Division semifinals.

I was banking on a Serrano vs. North showdown next week. Didn’t somebody write that these teams would sashay their way to the championship game?

That guy needs to have his head checked.
