When I found out on Saturday night that top-seeded Harvard-Westlake would be playing Laguna Beach in the Southern California Regional Division III final, I knew I had to have a courtside seat for this showdown between two volleyball titans.
For the first time since 2001, the Wolverines have a shot at advancing to a divisional state title game, and I think they’ve got a pretty good chance thanks to a team high on talent and experience. Harvard-Westlake has 10 seniors on its roster as well as sophomore standout Megan Norton, who’s one of the biggest spike queens in Southern California.
Of course, Laguna Beach isn’t a pushover and the Breakers are looking to return to a state division title match for the second consecutive season. Arizona-bound OH Dana Hutchinson is one of the very best and 6-foot-1 Laurielle Hofer is a blocking menace.
And if you don’t having the pleasure of being at tonight’s game in North Hollywood, don’t worry -- I’ll keep you in the loop. Stay tuned to see who’ll be making the trek to the state finals in San Jose State on Saturday. This volleyball duel gets under way at 7.
