The Murrieta Valley boys’ team is one of three from California selected to compete Saturday at the Nike Team Nationals in Portland, Ore. The Nighthawks were selected as an at-large entrant after finishing runner-up Saturday at the Division I state championships in Fresno.

Dana Hills, the boys’ Division I state champion, and Los Angeles Loyola, the Division II state champion, were also selected.

The race is held on the infield of Portland Meadows, a race horse track that features man-made moguls not seen on any Southland cross-country course. Powerful striders tend to perform better on this surface. Kate Moss wouldn’t stand a chance.
