The City Section has begun an investigation to determine whether a group of boys’ basketball players who transferred from Woodland Hills Taft to Reseda should be declared ineligible under the new CIF transfer rule.

The players left after Taft’s JV coach, Randall Harris, resigned as coach. Harris’ son transferred to Reseda, along with a relative and another Taft player. All three were in the starting lineup Tuesday against Fairfax. Harris coached the players on a club team and allegedly helped coach at Reseda this fall.

Under the new transfer rule, players are not allowed to follow a former coach to his new school. Reseda has told City officials that Harris is not coaching with the team.

Reseda is the second City school facing scrutiny because of the new transfer rule. Van Nuys lost four players who transferred from Sylmar to join former Sylmar assistant Charles White. Those players have submitted paperwork to City commissioner Barbara Fiege in an attempt to prove they were not recruited to Van Nuys and, therefore, should have their eligiblity restored.
