Well, the Inland Division semifinal between Corona Centennial and visiting Chaparral has been halted with 8:03 left in the second quarter because a Chaparral defender has, according to a member of the Chaparral training staff, ‘hurt his shoulder again.’

Now, I’ve received some backlash for my stance on calling an ambulance for shoulder injuries that don’t involve amputation, and especially when the player lays in the middle of the field until he’s taken away.

I watched Chris Polk of Redlands East Valley suffer a serious shoulder injury last night vs. Corona Santiago. He not only got up and jogged off the field, but he returned to play, even though he couldn’t lift his left arm over his head.

Medical staff need to do a better job evaluating injuries such as this. We’ll probably end up with a few pulled hamstrings because of this delay.

At least walk off the field next time.

By the way, the player was hurt on a 53-yard touchdown run by Ryan Bass of Centennial, giving the Huskies a 32-7, pending the extra point, which was good.
