You expect to see flashes of brilliance as well as ragged patches in season openers.

Taft Coach Derrick Taylor saw plenty of both in the Toreador’s 83-56 victory over King-Drew in the Westchester Tip-Off Classic Tuesday.

‘It was typical. Ups-and-downs on offense and defense with good moments and breakdowns,’ said Taylor, who saw nothing to dim his title hopes. ‘That’s how we operate -- with high expectations. And we expect to get it done. And if we don’t reach them, we’ll give it all we have.’
