Made it out here to Colony in no time at all. Everyone must be in the malls because they’re not on the freeways. Now, I just need to deal with the brisk temperatures.

I decided to break tradition and head up to the press box to watch this Central Division final between the Titans and visiting Canyon Springs. First of all, I’m afraid my fingers will go numb and I won’t be able to blog from this beauty. Secondly, this is the biggest high school press box I’ve seen in a while and I don’t like to see things go to waste.

It’s been a while since I’ve been stuck in the same room as the game announcer. These guys tend to think they’re more important than Al Michaels. They all have the same story....’Back in ‘75, the regular announcer called in sick and they asked me to do it and I haven’t missed a game since.’

And then there’s the all-important spotter. Why can’t the announcer talk and figure out who carried the ball, or made the tackle? Shoot, he should try typing on a blackberry while doing that stuff.
These guys better be on the ball or I’ll pull a Dave Osterman and start announcing the line of scrimmage after every play. That guy, a prep reporter for the OC Register, was an original ... and is missed by everyone who knew him.

Anyway, about 20 minutes before kickoff. I’ll have another update after the first quarter.
