I expected to be greeted with a scowl and a withering stare. Instead, Carson Coach Mike Christensen was keeping a positive look on his face while watching Birmingham (13-1) celebrate its 41-6 victory over Carson (11-3) in the City championship game Friday at the Coliseum.

I expected his demeanor to change when I asked him what I had previously asked him earlier this fall: Are you stepping away from the Colts and taking another job?

The rumors were flying around the Coliseum that Friday’s game would be his last as the Colts’ coach.

‘No, not that I know of right now,’ Christensen said, still smiling when I asked if he was leaving. ‘All our focus was on the game. We’ll take care of all that other stuff in the off-season.

‘But I’m planning to be right back here next year.’
