Thankfully, this Inland Division championship game has ended. Corona Centennial won, 42-7, over Corona Santiago at the Home Depot Center this afternoon. Now, the Huskies must sit around the rest of the weekend and wonder if their season is still alive. That doesn’t sound fun.

Centennial started out slowly, but ended with a bang, probably sensing it needed to win by a pretty good margin to silence the naysayers when it comes to the state Division I bowl championship bowl berth from the south. By the way, Eric Sondheimer has disappeared, probably lobbying for Birmingham votes somewhere.

Sondheimer said he wasn’t impressed with either team, but that’s pretty impressive when a team you’re not impressed with still wins by five touchdowns without doing a whole lot. I predicted a five-touchdown victory, so maybe I will stop at Morongo on the way back from Palm Springs tomorrow.

About the only thing that continues to haunt the Huskies are the penalties. They had nine for 96 yards heading into the fourth quarter.

It will be interesting on Sunday to see which team gets the south’s bid for the Division I state game. I’m glad I don’t have to decide.
