One more game. That’s all the Birmingham Patriots are asking for.

They won’t know until Sunday if their 13-1 record (and 13 straight wins), topped by Friday’s 41-6 dismantling of Carson (11-3) in the City championship game, will get them that berth in the state Division I bowl championship game on Dec. 15. It’s in the hands of the section commissioner now.

‘I don’t think there’s anyone else playing as well as we are now,’ Coach Ed Croson said after the latest victory at the Coliseum.

‘We’d love to have a shot at Concord De La Salle or whoever comes down. But I think there are 5-6 teams that would like to have a shot at De La Salle.

‘I think we’re deserving. This is an unusual group ... special with a capital ‘S.’ When you don’t talk about a great player like Milton Knox first, it’s a great team. Three years ago we played with 11 sophomores, seven on defense. Since then, in 18 games, the defensive starters gave up five touchdowns in City play. How much more can you say than that.’
