Bill Redell, the Oaks Christian football coach who guided the Lions to their fifth consecutive section championship on Friday night, is feeling full of vigor.

‘I’ll play Birmingham in a New York minute,’ he said of the City Section champion Patriots.

Redell’s confidence has come about because of Oaks Christian’s rise in the last month of the season.

‘The last seven games, we’re as good as any team in Southern California,’ Redell said.

Now Redell must hope for Newhall Hart to defeat Ventura St. Bonaventure in today’s Northern Division final to see if Oaks Christian is awarded a state Division III bowl championship berth.
