The story behind Vaughn Telemaque’s socks

Vaughn Telemaque stood tall in the aftermath of Long Beach Poly’s 13-3 victory over Crespi in the Pac-5 Division final, having intercepted three passes, including one intended for Notre Dame-bound Joseph Fauria in the end zone that clinched the victory.

Telemaque stood in rain-soaked shoes and striped green-and-white socks.

He was confronted by an official before the game about his fashion choice, which did not conform to the uniform worn by his Poly teammates.

‘He let me know he didn’t appreciate the socks, but it was up to my coach to make me take them off,’ said Telemaque, who admitted he had another pair with him. ‘I just bought them today for the championship game. Nothing big. I just wanted a different pair. It made it bigger than it is.’

They may now be his lucky socks. Only once before had he intercepted three passes in a game, against Carson. And all three of these picks were above average in nature.

It was a money performance by a money player.
