I can’t believe I’m going to bother you with this, but when has that ever stopped me?

Word circulating in the press box at Home Depot Center on Saturday was that the California Interscholastic Federation will serve box lunches for the media at the State Bowl Championship games.

Word on the street is that the State CIF is cheap. The Southern Section popped for actual dinner (meat/vegetable lasagna, vegetable medley, salad). But the boxed dinners are likely to be ham and roast beef sandwiches and the like.

Is the State CIF really cheap? Well, at the press conference Monday in which coaches, athletic directors and principals were flown in for interviews, a Chicken Caesar Salad was served. There were also canned drinks.

Didn’t strike me as lavish, but certainly not cheap.

But I had to wonder when I saw the person busing the tables. It was Marie Ishida.

She’s the executive director of the CIF. Now that’s leadership.

Or maybe she was saving enough money to spring for lasagna next week.

It was impressive, nevertheless.
