Modesto Central Catholic running back/linebacker/kick returner Louis Bland, pictured, is beginning to show the wear and tear of playing both ways in the Division III state bowl game against St. Bonaventure.

He was stopped shot of the first-down marker by Dylan Davis on fourth and one at the St. Bonny 40-yard line, and took a few second to get off the turf.

A holding penalty wiped out a long run from St. Bonny running back Darrell Scott on the Seraphs’ first offensive series of the fourth quarter, leaving them with third and very long, but Drew Gibson got behind the Raider defense and Casey Serna laid in a perfect pass for a 70-yard touchdown, giving St. Bonny a 21-14 lead with 10:35 remaining in the game.

Bland, a two-time state champion wrestler, will need to find something extra if Central Catholic hopes to answer the challenge.
