The 32-team San Fernando Valley boys’ basketball tournament begins today at Crespi, Alemany, Kennedy and Granada Hills. It’s a good time to watch what I think is going to be one of the best teams in the region, the Crespi Celts.

Crespi is finally back at full strength with the return of its football players to the basketball court. The Celts went 2-2 without 6-foot-8 Joseph Fauria and sophomore point guard Blake Stanton. They’re supposed to be available for tonight’s 6 p.m. tournament opener against San Fernando. The brackets are available here.

Also in the tournament are Santa Barbara and outstanding junior Roberto Nelson; Palisades from the tough Western League; Ribet Academy; View Park Prep, which has a new coach in Brian Taylor and upset Dorsey last week, and Beverly Hills.

The championship game is set for Friday night at Alemany.
