The City Section Rules Committee has turned down the request of senior guard Jason Pruitt to join the Fremont varsity basketball team. Pruitt was granted limited eligibility, meaning he could play on the school’s junior varsity team.

Pruitt, pictured, attended View Park last year but is currently being home-schooled. When View Park administrators did not let him back on its varsity team this season because he was not enrolled in classes on campus, Pruitt tried to join the Pathfinders.

While the written decision has not arrived at Fremont, both Athletic Director Amy Baer and boys’ basketball Coach Sam Sullivan confirmed that Pruitt would not be on the team.

‘I’m sorry he cannot join us,’ said Sullivan, whose 8-1 team was headed to San Luis Obisbo for the Mission Prep Classic tournament. ‘A player of his caliber would have put us over the hump.’
