Looking for a good excuse to head out to the low desert this week?

Well, the Desert Heat Challenge at Cathedral City High might just provide the reason.

A few of the teams entered include Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Pleasant Grove (Utah), Canyon Springs and Harvard-Westlake.

Some of the top players to watch include Renaldo Woolridge of Harvard-Westlake, who has signed with Tennessee, Anthony Gilchrist of Cathedral City, the reigning Desert Valley League player of the year, and Pleasant Grove junior shooting guard C.J. Wilcox, one of the state’s top prospects for his grade level.

The tournament begins Wednesday with pool-play games and concludes Saturday night with the championship game. In between, you might even have time to work on that farmer’s tan.
