A couple of three-point shooters had the hot hand Thursday night, and two Inland Empire boys’ basketball teams continued their winning ways.

A.J. Baylon of Ayala made seven three-pointers and scored 29 points in a 69-58 win over Patriot in a pool-play game at the Cathedral City tournament. The victory was Coach Tom Gregory’s 500th. Way to hang in there, Tom!

Over at the San Gorgonio tournament, Rick Peetz of Redlands did even better, sinking eight of nine three-point attempts and scoring 30 points in an 82-52 quarterfinal victory over Colton.

Etiwanda remained unbeaten with a 56-49 quarterfinal victory over Oakland Skyline at the Modesto Christian tournament. Tre Brewer, looking like the best offseason acquisition in the I.E. after transferring from Alta Loma, scored 15 points and Rome Draper had 13. The Eagles are now flying at 13-0.

Upland advanced to the semifinals of the Santa Barbara tournament with a 53-44 victory over Clovis West. Kevin Bradshaw had 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Highlanders (12-2).

Riverside King (12-1) opened the Walter Wang tournament in Hawaii with a 65-28 win over St. Louis (Ha.). I can picture Sunday’s headline in the Hawaii Star-Bulletin newspaper.

‘King wins Wang!’
