I’ll be baaack. . . . Wait, before we go any further, this has nothing to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger or The Terminator. It does, however, have everything to do with Cierre Wood. He’s baaack. Only this time, Wood, one of the most sought after football recruits in the nation, is making headlines on the hardwood, not the gridiron.

The junior from Santa Clara has made a seemingly effortless transition from sport to sport over the past week, or so. Never was that more evident than on Thursday when Wood scored a game-high 14 points in a 47-40 victory over Westlake in a consolation game of the Ventura Kiwanis Tournament. Not bad, for a running back.

His future is on the football field, no doubt about it. The recruiting services, Rivals.com and Scout.com, watch his every move, as does every major NCAA Division I program in the nation with a pending scholarship offer on the table.

Cleats and pads are the last thing on his mind, for the time being. He’s all about sneakers and baggy shorts these days. And that bodes well for Santa Clara, which could challenge the likes of Oaks Christian and Carpinteria for the Tri-Valley League title, with Wood in the lineup, of course.
