The Mira Costa girls’ basketball team beat Norco, 48-42, in one semifinal, and Edison beat Foothill, 67-52, in the other to set up the championship for tonight’s Larry Doyle Orange County Championships.

Mira Costa (11-2) is ranked No. 12 in The Times’ preseason rankings. It was the only ranked team among the four semifinalists, but popular opinion is that unranked Edison (9-3) -- behind Lynwood transfer Priscila Cergol and freshman Bonnie Samuelson -- might actually be the favored team going into the game.

Tip off is at 8 p.m. at Marina High. If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the first time either of the host schools has played for the championship.

Samuelson scored 27 against Foothill, and Cergol 12.

The rash of second-round upsets on Thursday created some compelling games throughout today: Seventh place, No. 3 San Clemente vs. No. 21 Esperanza, 2 p.m.; Fifth place, No. 6 Santa Margarita vs. No. 16 Troy, 5 p.m.; No. 22 Foothill vs. Norco, 6:30 p.m.
