The word circulating in the internet community is that Mater Dei’s Wear twins -- David (pictured left) and Travis (right) -- have committed to North Carolina, according to CarolinaBlue.com.

Mater Dei (16-0, 1-0), ranked No. 4 in the Southland by The Times in the preseason, opened Trinity League play tonight with an 87-56 victory over visiting St. John Bosco. Travis had 20 points and David added 15.

Each of the Wear boys is a 6-foot-10, 220-pound junior. Before tonight’s game, Travis led the Monarchs with an average of 18.6 points and 8.7 rebounds. David had averaged 17.4 points and 10 rebounds.

David was considered the better half of the twins as a sophomore, averaging 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds. He made 20 three-pointers and came on strong late in the season. Like his brother, he has improved his strength.

Travis has closed the small gap with his brother and seems prepared to give the Monarchs legitimate Twin Towers. Improving his rebounding and becoming more of an inside force were summer goals.

‘Now they’re pretty much the same,’ Coach Gary McKnight said of the twins.
