Most girls’ soccer teams are readying to kick off league play, but two intriguing intersectional matchups are also on next week’s slate.

On Monday, Mira Costa travels to San Pedro for a contest between teams that lost, by the same score in fact, in the same round of their respective section playoffs last season.

Mira Costa (5-1-4) was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I playoffs, falling 2-1 in overtime to Esperanza. San Pedro (4-2) lost to L.A. Hamilton, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the City Championship playoffs. The Mustangs and Pirates have one common opponent this season, each having lost to Palos Verdes

On Thursday, Palisades hosts Notre Dame Academy in a contest that figures to be high scoring. The Dolphins (5-2), who won the City Invitational division last year, have netted 21 goals while Notre Dame Academy (10-2-2), a Southern Section Division V semifinalist, has tallied 43.

On paper, the Regals appear to have the edge. They beat Sunshine League rival Marymount, 2-0, five days after Palisades lost to the Sailors by the same score.
