After reaching the City semifinals last year, the Bell boys’ soccer team came into this season with expectations of winning its first championship since 1994.

And after a somewhat slow start the Eagles, who play Huntington Park on Wednesday, are showing why they feel confident.

In their first six games, despite a 3-1-2 record, the Eagles scored a total of seven goals. But in the last six games, all victories, they have totaled 18 goals. And there is no one player to zero in on for defenses -- sophomore Daniel Castro, freshman forward Rudy Montoya and senior forward Carlos Velasquez lead the team with five goals each.

‘I believe this is a championship-caliber team,’ Coach Daniel Gallardo said. ‘But I also know we still have a lot to prove. So I have to keep them humble. We’re not letting this [six-game] winning streak go to their heads.’
