If Agoura does manage to pull off its second Marmonte League title in three years this season, it’ll do so without having to rely on a couple of flashy standouts. Sure, senior forward Kendall Dreyer and senior defender Ashley Cheney are among the more coveted players in the region, but the Chargers’ impressive 10-0-2 start (3-0-1 in league) has had very little to do with individual contributions.

Offensively, 14 players have scored for the Chargers and, on defense, the team has allowed only six goals -- five of which came on set-up plays such as penalty kicks. That’s pretty impressive in my book.

‘This is the most well-rounded team I’ve ever had here,’ said Coach Michael Skene, whose team includes nine seniors. ‘We don’t look to one player to carry us.... It needs to be a total-team effort.’

And that effort will need to be operating at full steam if the Chargers are going to defeat defending champion and top-dog Thousand Oaks tonight at 6. The Chargers are coming off a 1-1 tie with fellow title-chaser Royal on Monday and a victory over the talented Lancers would definitely show the Chargers mean business.

‘The girls have set the goal to win the league championship this year,’ Skene said, ‘and we need to stay focused on that.’
