Mark Verti resigned this morning/Thursday as head football coach at Bishop Amat. In two years on the job, Verti was 8-12, including a 3-7 mark this season.

There had been rumors about Verti’s job status all season after some of the programs’ best players left during the summer. Dorian Wells transferred to South Hills, where he was named the area’s player of the year by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, and Bryce Mahmud-McBride transferred to Los Altos. The Lancers’ Nos. 1 and 2 quarterbacks vacated as well.

No word as to whether Verti will remain at Bishop Amat as a teacher.

A graduate of Bishop Amat in 1996, he joined the Lancers’ coaching staff in 2004 as offensive coordinator. He replaced Michael DiFiori as head coach in 2006.

Look for the Lancers to move quickly to find a replacement, possibly hiring someone by the end of the month.
