Crespi’s Shanks named MVP of Serra League football

Crespi running back Austin Shanks has been named most valuable player of the Serra League after rushing for 1,389 yards and 11 touchdowns and leading the Celts to the Pac-5 Division championship game in December. Shanks, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound senior, also caught 17 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns and made 15 solo tackles and four interceptions at defensive back.

Senior quarterback Dayne Crist of league runner-up Sherman Oaks Notre Dame was named most valuable offensive player. Crist, who has committed to play for Charlie Weis at the University of Notre Dame, threw for 2,178 yards and 16 touchdowns in only 10 games.

Crespi’s L.J. Jones, a 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back bound for Fresno State, was named most valuable defensive player. He had 41 solo, 24 assisted tackles and four interceptions. Celts senior Julian Fields, a 6-foot, 305-pound offensive/defensive lineman (47 solo, 38 assisted tackles) was selected most valuable lineman.
