Mater Dei will play tonight’s/Friday night’s Trinity League boys’ basketball game without its leading scorer, 6-foot-10 Travis Wear, who will be sidelined at least a month after partially tearing a muscle in his left shin on Wednesday, Coach Gary McKnight said.

‘Any time you lose a 6-10 guy who’s leading your team in scoring, it’s tough,’ McKnight said.

Wear suffered his injury in a game against JSerra. He and his 6-10 twin, David, committed to North Carolina last week. Mater Dei (17-0), ranked No. 2 in the Southland by The Times, will host sixth-ranked Santa Margarita (17-1) at 7:30 p.m.
