Neither Fairfax nor Westchester will have a wealth of preparation for their first Western League boys’ basketball duel on Friday at Fairfax.

Each has two other games this week. Westchester (16-2, 2-0) will play University tonight/Monday and Venice on Wednesday, and Fairfax (12-2, 2-0) must get through Hamilton tonight/Monday and LACES on Wednesday.

‘It would be good if we had more time in between to prepare,’ Fairfax Coach Harvey Kitani said. ‘But it is what it is. It’s like tournaments, when you play back-to-back nights. But [playing that often] is also good practice for playoff games.’

When asked how important this first of two meetings with Westchester is on Friday, Kitani replied, ‘It’s important because a win puts you in the driver’s seat for league play. But even more important about Friday’s game is the quality of competition, because that is how you improve.’
