Washington Coach Ricky Blackmon doesn’t want to overstate the importance of Friday’s Marine League game against Narbonne, since it is the first of two scheduled meetings this season.

But Blackmon knows an upset win on Narbonne’s home court would provide more validation for his team from the doubters who felt Washington’s run to the City Championship game last season was a fluke. (Remember, the section ruled Narbonne ineligible for postseason play.)

‘It’s definitely the biggest game for us since the championship game last year [against Taft],’ Blackmon said. ‘Yes, it is the first one between us and Narbonne. But it is a big one.’

For Washington to be successful, Blackmon said, the Generals will need to rebound well on the defensive end and take good care of the ball.

‘We can’t have an outlandish number of turnovers,’ he said. ‘That was one of the ways they beat us last year.’
