By holding off Dorsey, 82-76, on Wednesday, the Fremont boys’ basketball team put itself in control of its own destiny.

The Pathfinders went through the first round of Coliseum League play unblemished (6-0). They will face all their league foes one more time, and only two of those games -- against Crenshaw and Locke -- are on the road.

The biggest weakness for Fremont is a thin roster. Ten players are listed, but Coach Sam Sullivan more often than not has been making do with seven or eight. They will get JV reinforcements for the playoffs, but those won’t be players Sullivan will depend on heavily.

The immediate goal: finish league undefeated. That would go a long way toward getting Fremont at least a No. 4 seed in the City playoffs. And that could mean the Pathfinders probably would not face a Taft, Fairfax or Westchester until the semifinals.
