The Riverside King boys’ basketball team originally turned down an invitation to play in the Pangos Dream Classic Saturday at UCLA. The Wolves had already scheduled the maximum number of games.

But then Hargrave Military Academy from Chatham, Va., did not receive permission from its state commissioner to make the trip, leaving Dominguez without an opponent.

Pangos officials then came up with a solution. Gahr, which plays in the San Gabriel Valley League with Dominguez, would replace the Wolves in the MLK Invitational on Monday at King, giving King the opportunity to play the Dons at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at UCLA.

‘It will be a great experience to play in that arena against one of the top teams in the state,’’ King Coach Tim Sweeney said. ‘We can show everybody what type of team we have.’’

Dominguez is ranked No. 4 in the Southland by The Times, King is No. 9.

Gahr will step into the 8 p.m. game Monday at King and play a very talented West Valley team. Gahr likes to run and gun, while West Valley likes to power it to the basket on the inside, so should be a good matchup.
