I knew there was a reason why I picked Saugus to win the Foothill League boys’ basketball title and I’ve seen it in the third quarter of their game against Canyon. The Centurions opened the second half on an 11-0 run thanks to baskets to Mario Wright, Cameron Diorio and Michael Cassio to give them a 43-27 lead over their crosstown rivals.

It’s not the biggest lead in the world, but I’d be shocked if the Cowboys can recover. They’ve been outplayed on the boards and they’ve had difficulty stopping the Centurions’ perimeter shooting.

Now, if they can just replicate this performance over the remaining six league games, they’ll be looking pretty for the title.
