Garfield and Roosevelt customarily take over the East Los Angeles College stadium in November for their neighborhood rivalry football game.

Both schools are headed to ELAC again on Thursday, but this time it’s for a boys’ soccer match.

Roosevelt Athletic Director Mike Flores said the Rough Riders and Bulldogs play at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

‘Originally we were going to play at Roosevelt, but the stadium was offered to us,’ Flores said. ‘So we set the time to 6 p.m., in hopes we can get more parents out to watch.’

I can’t imagine the soccer match will be the same kind of draw as the football game -- which regularly fills the 20,000 seat stadium as a paying event. But considering the popularity of soccer, any decent-sized crowd will be duly noted.
