Terry Gourley is apparently ready to start Phase 2 of his football coaching career at Grace Brethren. Gourley, who led Grace Brethren to very successful campaigns in 2004 and 2005, has been named the new football coach at the Simi Valley-based school even though he just resigned back in August.

The 45-year-old takes over for Mark Hoefler, who led the Lancers to a 4-6 season last year. Hoefler will remain on Gourley’s staff.

Gourley said he initially resigned because of the difficulty fulfilling his myriad of responsibilities with the school. However, since he is no longer the school’s athletic director, he’s able to dedicate more time to the gridiron.

Gourley led the Lancers to the Division XII title in 2004 in his first year at the helm and pushed the team to a Division XI title-game appearance in 2005. He has a 26-12 career record with the Lancers.

Last fall, Gourley was the offensive line coach at College of the Canyons.
