Underway is its dominance. Compton boys’ basketball is 6-0 against Moore League foes, so I quipped to Coach Tony Thomas: ‘I guess you’re expecting to go undefeated in league.’
Thomas laughed, then got serious.’We’re going to give it a shot,’ he said. ‘That’s a goal we set -- a smaller goal -- and we can’t afford to lose anymore.’ True. No. 13-ranked Compton, at an underwhelming 16-5, has lost a bit more than expected, has not won a tournament and must win league to justify its preseason hype.
Compton plays Long Beach Jordan tonight at 6:30.
