The UC Irvine police dispatcher who allegedly took photos of high school water polo players that appeared on gay-oriented websites has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to the Orange County Register.

The actions of Scott Cornelius are under investigation, and though it’s still unclear if he did anything legally wrong, the Southern Section office -- for the second time this school year -- released a memo warning about the suspicious activities of photographers and encouraged schools to question activity deemed out of the ordinary.

I’m not sure that Cornelius is guilty of anything other than smarmy behavior, and may well have been within his legal rights, but this story is an excellent reminder about looking out for and being aware of activity that doesn’t fit the norm -- anywhere. Because these photos of unknowing water polo players aren’t the only ones that have appeared on adult sites. Women have been subject to this for years.
