The Schurr Spartans speared the Alhambra Moors -- by an itsy-bitsy point -- and remain roosted atop the Almont League after a 56-55 victory Friday night in boys’ basketball.

A Spartan loss would’ve knotted up first place with the Moors. But Alex Valdez scored 17 out his 28 points in the second half and Schurr (14-6, 5-1) averted any slippage. The win was also vengeance for the Spartans, who lost to the Moors on Jan. 8.

Next up for Schurr, it’s the Battle of Thermopylae where they will meet the up-and-coming Persians -- the 300 Spartans, according to Vegas, are overwhelming underdogs.
