Santee hoped to take another step toward the Southern League boys’ basketball title Friday with a victory over Los Angeles. If things go the Falcons’ way, center Joshua Chatman will, no doubt, have had a lot to do with the victory.

‘There are a lot of people who have not seen him,’ Coach Curtis Hughes said before the game. ‘He’s one of the City’s hidden gems.’

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Chatman looks as if he can score inside anytime he wants to against the smaller Romans. While he has 13 points for Santee, which leads, 33-23, at halftime, you have to wonder what Chatman could do against the City’s elite forwards who are more his size.
